reflecting on the project:
I was satisfied with the final outcome. The book I’ve created is structured in an appropriate manner and has in depth information on the history and culture of Turkey. This makes the book informational and easy to understand by the target audience.
This project has extremely helped me in terms of understanding my topic and extending my knowledge. I was always interested in learning more about who I am. For example, growing up far from most of my relatives I asked many questions about my family tree. This project allowed me to go into every detail about where I originated. I was able to investigate and interpret information about the history and my culture through multiple steps in the report (see appendix E for evidence). I am now able to clearly see how my heritage and culture has impacted my family and me. What I hoped was to inspire others to learn more about themselves.
During the project IB learner profiles I developed were communicator, open-minded, and caring. I believe I was open minded as I had to write from an objective perspective taking into account many other cultures and beliefs. I had respect for all cultures and got to consider different points of views. Therefore, I was also caring, having empathy for other opinions. For example, a country Turkey had war with years ago wasn’t talked about badly. Lastly, I communicated my findings through my book. I also discussed information with others, for example my interviewee and supervisor, making me a communicator. I got into contact with my supervisor for any questions I had, or in order to arrange a meeting through written communication (emails, messages over teams).
One of the challenges I faced was time management as I am a slow writer however I was able to complete my product and write my report on it. I used my process journal to log every step, and I followed my action plan. I was able to track each task and make sure it was completed taking into consideration the deadlines. I believe my writing skills have improved as well. I was able to write a short book with minimal grammatical errors. This makes me happy and proud as I was able to achieve my goals for this project.
